Niantic teased a big event and Future Game Plans in Pokemon Go at German Tech Conference

We had a full week filled with Amazing from Eggstravaganza to New Mythical Pokemon coming and certainly it doesn’t seem to stop, and we have some juicy information, Thanks to Redditors SirPaulchen and thw3416.

So here’s what we have!

At the recent 5G Conference which was held in Berlin, Germany, Omar Téllez (VP Business Development, Niantic Labs) and Michael Jones (Strategic Advisor, Niantic Labs) took the floor to address implications of 5G and fortunately, The conference was mainly about the implications of 5G, The two speakers working at Niantic also addressed some potential upcoming features for the game.

About new features in Pokémon GO

During the Conference, Niantic Speakers Stressed the point that the development of new features for Pokemon go has only recently begun, the Huge Pokemon Trainer user base forced them to address a lot of other things for the first One and half Year. They did mention a couple of concepts that are on the horizon:

1. In-game communications: Niantic is planning for direct chatting or Posting boards for specific locations, This would align with Niantic acquiring Evertoon in 2017, a social media startup that would help Niantic build social systems to benefit the community.
2. Transferring items: Transferring items like potions in-game or via social media. Although Pokemon trading was NOT mentioned.
3. ‎Personalized Pokemon encounters: Niantic planning new Pokemon Encounter algorithms, The Missing Pokedex entry in the trainer’s database will randomly spawn somewhere close to the player with a notification will be sent, The Pokemon encounter will be specific to that trainer only. If one continues to ignore such notifications, they will become rarer.
4. Spoofing: Omar Téllez (VP Business Development, Niantic Labs) and Michael Jones (Strategic Advisor, Niantic Labs) mentioned they will do everything in their power to ban spoofing and spoofers. They will be using algorithms and possibly include provider information (where legal).
5. 5G-Location: In the very long term they’d like to be able to rely on 5G locations instead of GPS. This would also save battery, as phones have to connect to the transmitters anyway.

The big event – Pokémon GO Fest

According to thw3416’s notes from the conference

Niantic is planning to host a big event in Dortmund, Germany, this summer. They are expecting up to 100,000 people to that event. However, during their presentation, never did they mention that it would be for Pokémon GO, so we will have to stay in the realm of speculations for what follows.

Niantic is planning to open an office in Germany and is starting to recruit for that and they will possibly add more events in Germany in the future.
