Gen III is finally official and we will soon be catching Gen3 Pokemon as soon as this Sunday. Along with Gen III though, we will also have a new feature introduced this month: Weathers.
Gen III was Officially announced by Niantic a few hours ago.
Weather in Pokemon GO will be affecting the way the Pokemon spawns and their Catch Rewards work. And here’s your complete Pokemon GO Weather Guide, including everything you need to know.
List of Known Weather Conditions
The following Weather conditions are known to be available in the game:
- Clear
- Rainy
- Windy
- Snowy
- Foggy
- Sunny

These are the Pokemon Type that accompanies the various Weather patterns made available in-game. The accompanying Pokemon will appear stronger, more frequently and give bonus Stardust when caught during their accompanying weather effect.

It’s currently unknown whether which types will be affected by the Sunny Weather
No Weather Exclusives
The Weathers won’t have any exclusive Pokemon Spawns but certain Pokemon will appear more during a certain Weather than usual.
This was confirmed by Niantic official Slemon in an interview with the Verge. by giving a Lotad example:
“We don’t have any pokémon that will only show up in a given weather condition. But there are some pokémon who care a lot about their weather conditions, so you can expect Lotad to show up in really large numbers when it’s raining outside. But if you live in an area where it doesn’t really have that much rain, you might still see a Lotad wandering through your habitat.”
How do you identify a Weather Specific Spawn?
A “Swirly Effect” will appear on a weather specific spawn, similar to the kind of seen on Incense Spawns. They will be easily identifiable in-game.

Weather Spawns Stats and CP
Wild Weather Spawns will feature Higher CP and possibly even increased IV vales. The CP will have a Level 30 cap.
The official statement says the following:
“The new dynamic weather gameplay will add unique ways for Trainers to engage with Pokémon based on real-world weather including changing Pokémon habitats, increasing Combat Power, and earning more Stardust.”
Weather Affecting Raid Battles
Weather conditions will even impact the way Battles work. Raid bosses may be stronger on a given day based on the weather, while your Charizard will be more effective in gym battles when it’s hot and sunny. Although these Weather conditions won’t impact your Pokemon Negatively.
Niantic Official Slemon said the following to the Verge, explaining the same:
“We prefer to give bonuses rather than penalties where we can. We don’t want to penalize a player by, for instance, de-powering a pokémon that they may be very attached to. The other part of that is we want to encourage behavior rather than punish it. We’re trying to strike a balance between promoting gameplay that utilizes weather, without penalizing everyone who might not have that super high-level Charizard when it’s hot outside.”
