FAQs of Alolan Form – A simple explanation for those that are confused

What is Alolan Form?

Alola is Region Variant Pokemon, Just in a simple language, Alolan Forms are the alternate version of the same Pokémon which are supposed to represent Pokémon of the same species that evolved differently for geographical reasons (Examples Few Animals are different in different countries because of Habitat).

Why are they called Alolan Forms?

They are called Alolan forms because they come from the Alola region in the main series games (just like the current newest release set in Pokémon GO comes from the Hoenn region).

What is Region Variant?

regional variant is a species of Pokémon found in a specific region that takes on a different form than it does in most other regions. These Pokémon have uniquely adapted to habitats that are different than those where its species naturally live in other parts of the world. As such, many things may be different about them, from their appearance and way of living to even their type, moves, Abilities, base stats and height and weight. This is analogous to peripatric speciation in regards to real-world phenomena, where a population that is isolated from the rest of the species develop unique traits and eventually evolve into a new species.

When were Alolan Forms Introduced in Pokemon?

Alolan forms were introduced in Generation 7 in the Sun and Moon games. They were created when Kantonian Pokemon traveled to the tropical region of Alola and had to adapt to the environment around them and protect themselves from predators. To do this, they changed forms, typing, and even stats to better survive in the new habitat.

Do they have different typing and stats?

Yes, although they resemble the original form, they have a different typing and stats, and as a result, they have a different appearance that resembles their new typing better.

and we can expect these Alolan versions to learn different moves, be a different type, and have different stats, and therefore have a different max CP than their non-Alolan comrades.

Will they have a different dex page?

They will almost definitely have the same entry in the Pokédex but with a button for their Alolan form, just like Castform. It would be strange for Niantic to not do it this way.

How are Alolan Forms obtained?

Some are normally obtained by evolving the Alolan form of their pre-evolution (e.g. Alolan Raticate comes from an Alolan Rattata) while others are a separate evolution of the normal form.

How will they spawn in Pokemon Go?

At this time we do not know if Alolan forms will spawn on the overworld or will be regional, at this time we cannot answer.

Will these Pokemon be meta relevant or better than their Normal forms?

This may be true for select Pokemon as they have different typing and stats.
